What does the highest authority in the universe have to say about this matter—that authority being God Almighty as revealed in His Word? 

A biblically accurate, informed understanding of what the Scriptures say about sin is foundational as to how we view the world and is the proper remedy to national and international problems.

How disciplined are you in your speech patterns? This week I would like to examine one of my favorite passages from the book of Ephesians that deals with God’s expectations of the way a believer speaks. This is really good stuff! 

One’s mastery over his tongue is extremely important in public office. Let us open up Ephesians 4:29 this week and learn what God has to say to us in this regard.

The Scriptures are replete with verses that emphasize how the believer must be characterized first and foremost by love. Love is essential and preeminent! A close second to love is the believer’s lifetime pursuit of knowledge. In fact, Proverbs calls those who are lacking in knowledge simpletons, whereas those who have knowledge are called wise. 

A public servant can be neither unloving nor a simpleton if he or she wants to be a good witness for Christ, as well as be effective in office. This study will seek to develop and further enhance the importance of the pursuit of knowledge in the life of the believer.

In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount He states, “You are the salt of the earth; … You are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:13–14). Often, well-meaning believers invoke this passage as a means of encouragement and prodding others to step up to the plate and affect the world. 

In this study, I desire to provide you with a greater understanding of the Greek verb that Jesus uses.

“You are” is not an imperative command; it is an indicative verb. This distinction is very important and necessary to make as we seek to better understand what the Bible means. Such precision leads to proper, God-glorifying application to one’s life.  My prayer is that the meaning of this passage will become increasingly clear as you study what follows.
