Dexton Lake recaps the twelfth and final week of the 2026 Idaho legislative session with a look back at some of the notable successes the Idaho Farm Bureau had with legislation we engaged in that became law this year, as well as a few losses. Also, a thank you to all the legislators for their hard work as well as the Farm Bureau members who took time to learn about the issues and reach out to their legislators.

Dexton Lake recaps week 11 of the Idaho legislative session with bills involving private property rights for landowners, property taxes, labeling requirements for lab-grown meat, Fish & Game rules on advanced hunting technology, large data centers and water usage, and reaffirming Idaho’s Water Rights in the Bear River Basin.      

Dexton Lake recaps week 10 of the Idaho legislative session with a bill ensuring existing electricity ratepayers are not subsidizing new large-scale energy users, a bill that protects landowners from government employees entering their private property without permission or warrants, a bill to protect the use of working animals, a bill clarifying that operators of farm and construction equipment are not required to pull over when blocking traffic until a safe and reasonable turnout is available, and a bill that expands opportunities for Idaho food producers to more easily sell food directly to consumers.

Dexton Lake recaps week 7 of the Idaho legislative session with a bill dealing with Idaho’s shortage of large animal veterinarians, two hemp-related bills aimed at providing greater regulatory clarity and certainty, a bill modernizing wolf trapping requirements, and an update on a bill outlining appropriate circumstances for using temporary rules.

Dexton Lake recaps week 6 of the Idaho legislative session with bills dealing with prohibiting warrantless searches on private property, labeling requirements for lab-grown or cell-cultivated protein products, strengthening the role of county commissioners when working with federal agencies on land management decisions, eliminating the different speed limits between passenger vehicles and commercial trucks, aligning how countywide highway district commissioners are elected with county commissioners, and a joint memorial that calls on federal partners to work with Idaho to expand water storage capacity to strengthen long-term water reliability.
