WeWork has been the subject of much discussion recently and its stock market debacle has been the subject of numerous articles in the financial media as well as in the traditional press.
The personality of its CEO Adam Neumann and his unethical behaviour were also strongly discussed.
We saw the investment technology giant SoftBank and its leader Masayoshi Son rushing to the rescue of WeWork. The fundamental question remains whether this is the right saviour for the falling start-up.
Professor Jacquet undertakes an uncompromising analysis of the situation and makes recommendations as to what should happen.

Financial theory often sees the company in terms of its stock market trajectory (trend, volatility).
The development of the computer models has allowed the emergence of theoretical innovations and remarkable practices, and the calculation of the cost of capital or the value of an option to purchase has no secret for professionals and academics.
However, a company remains a complex economic reality and relying on mathematical tools developed for the benefit of assets managers to evaluate assets that do not fit the basis of models is a risky proposition.
However, while innovation and research projects are like options, reducing a capital market model with real assets leads to beautiful academic publications, but not to an improvement in R & D management.
Improving productivity to stay competitive is a survival imperative for businesses. But reducing costs to the point of massively cutting intangible investment (innovation, training, etc.) might improves the short-term accounting result and but will destroy value in the medium term. This is the mistake, alas classic, made by the two illustrious shareholders of KraftHeinz. What's more interesting is that one of them had already made the same mistake with Coca-Cola: how to turn a corporate strategy into an accounting KPI at the expense of shareholder value!
