Captivate Podcast

In Matthew 28, Jesus gives every believer a clear mission—we often refer to it as the “Great Commission.” At Captivate, we have the privilege of living this out each week as we see lives transformed and disciples made for the glory of God. But what about beyond San Diego? How are we reaching people, serving communities, and making disciples across “every nation?”

This Sunday, we turned our focus outward as we celebrated and explored how God is moving through our missions ministry—locally, regionally, and around the world. Over the past year, we’ve been part of incredible ministry and humanitarian efforts both here in our city and across the globe. Tune into this week’s message filled with powerful stories and highlights titled, “Crossroads & Corners”.

Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).

This week we learned what God really wants to do in our lives through baptism. As we go down into the water, there is something God wants us to let go of. If we're honest, we aren't always good at letting go. Whether it's our stuff, an injustice, or a grudge, letting go in life is hard. But we will talk about letting go of one of the most difficult things: Our past mistakes.

Looking at the life of Moses, we saw that God led him to a moment at the Red Sea where he could no longer run from his past. It was a difficult situation, to say the least, but we discover in scripture that God actually led him into it. Why would God do that? To set him free. God will lead us into some Red Seas so he can drown the shame that chases us.

In Matthew 10, Jesus sends out his disciples into the world to preach the Good News. Before he sends them, he tells them why he came. He says in verse 34, "Don't think I came to bring peace into the world. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." What in the world does that mean?

The Bible teaches us that Jesus comes on Easter to bring us peace, but that's not the first thing he comes to do in our lives. He first comes to wage war on the thing that steals our peace: Sin. We often want to make peace with our sin, but Jesus comes to wage war against it. Jesus doesn't come to accept us and our sin, but rather accepts us despite our sin and after dealing with our sin. I believe Jesus wants to set us free in a whole new way this Easter, no matter how long we've been in church, by waging war on that which takes away our peace.

Do you ever think about what it is exactly Jesus called us to? More specifically, what did He call us to do?

In a world full of different systems and strategies for growth and a better life, vision boards and bucket lists, self help books and seminars, what really is the best plan for becoming better people and making the world a better place?

This week we talked about how we can follow Jesus to become the best versions of ourselves and truly become “Fishers of men” in a message called, “Go Fish”.

It's easy to look at our surroundings or at our current place in the world and to doubt whether we can actually be the change that's needed. Our workplaces feel too dark. Our schools might feel too dark. Our corners might feel too dark.

And often what that does is it puts a desire in us to leave the darkness in search of the light when the reality is that we are called to BE the light in the midst of the darkness.

This week we're breaking down the lies that tell us we can't and instead pressing into the truth that tells us we must, by looking at the calling of all believers in The Great Commission. Part of what we're going to see is that our purpose is always tied to people, and when your purpose is people any setting is the perfect setting to be used by God. Tune into this week’s message, “Exactly Where I Need To Be.”

When was the last time you had a good cry? Were you watching a movie that you became emotionally attached to and the tragic death of a character moved you?

We cry for a lot of different reasons and we think it's only about releasing and expressing emotions. But God's Word tells us that our tears are way more powerful than that, if we know what to do with them.

"Those who sow in tears, will reap in shouts of joy!" Psalm 126:5

This week we continue our “Every Corner” series all about reaching our corners - the people in our lives for Christ - with a message called, “Sowing Tears.”

Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).
