EASTER AT CAPTIVATE!

This Easter we heard a message called “Open Grave. Open Seat." So often we live our life fighting for a seat at the table. We give anything and everything for a seat at the marrieds table, the homeowners table, the spiritually elite table, etc. But often we are fighting for something Jesus already gave his life to fight for. The table we really long to sit at is the Father's Table, and Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection bought our seat for us.

This Sunday we continued our study through the book of John, "This Is The Way." Together, we dove into chapter 6 where we took a look at one of Jesus' most famous miracles: the feeding of the five thousand. This miracle was in many ways a turning point in Jesus' ministry because it revealed the true motivation of many of his followers--blessings. When Jesus challenged them, the Bible tells us that many of his disciples turned away.

What we learn is that if we only go to Jesus for what he can give us or do for us, we will miss out on the wonderful truth that WHO he is is enough. Check out this week’s message titled, “The Way Is Enough”.

Have you ever been asked a question that was able to pierce the distractions of life, one you couldn’t shake, one that kept ruminating in your soul? Questions, more than straight information have incredible power to change us. The power of a question lies in its ability to ignite curiosity, stimulate critical thinking, and unlock deeper understanding. Questions have a transformative impact, shaping conversations, driving exploration, and challenging assumptions. They serve as catalysts for learning, pushing individuals to seek knowledge beyond the surface. It encourages humility, acknowledging that there is always more to learn and understand.

In John 5 Jesus asks an invalid, a seemingly strange question, one foolishly might think an unnecessary question,— “Do you want to be healed?” But that question was the key to bringing freedom, change, and ultimate transformation to this man’s life. It’s a question that God will whisper in all of our ears before healing occurs.

This week we looked at the Way of Healing in a message titled, “Do You Want To Be Made Well?”

John 3:16 is the most famous verse in the world for the last two thousand years. It’s been spoken to crowds of hundreds of thousands in stadiums on every continent, worn on famous athletes apparel for championship matches and recited by world leaders in times of crisis. But it may surprise you to know that Jesus did not preach John 3:16 from a pulpit, sermonize it in a synagogue or proclaim it from a hillside to hundreds and thousands. No, the most famous verse in all the world was said to one man in the middle of the night. 

This Sunday we are continuing our series “This Is The Way” going through John chapter 3. In this chapter Nicodemus comes to Jesus with some questions and in a few short sentences Jesus changed Nicodemus’s entire paradigm and the world as we know it. In one fell swoop Nick’s understanding of Identity, Eternity, and Divinity was flipped upside down. These three concepts shape our entire life and the way we choose to live it. Sometimes we think we have a good grasp on them, but what if like Nick, we allow Jesus to show us the truth, the life and ultimately the way.

This Sunday we were in John chapter 4 talking about the story of the woman at the well. A woman goes to a well and ends up meeting THE well, Jesus. The Bible indicates she is exhausted and tired in life. Nothing she's doing is working. She needs a break, so what is she supposed to do?

When we come to the end of ourselves, the American way is to dig deeper, try harder, and work more. But the Christian idea is the exact opposite. When exhausted on the inside we don't dig deeper to conjure up strength and resilience, we receive these things from Jesus, the well, alone. We unpacked it this weekend in a message called, "The Way Out of Exhaustion."
