Or we may be dead wrong.

However, if you're stuck with someone who's not owning their decisions; maybe take it upon yourself to try a new way to shift their mindset.

  • Skills

    Work hard smart.

Practice makes perfect but the right practice turns into - progress. Rather than checking in and checking out, just going through the motions of practice, progressing in a certain specific skill will have employees actually get you the end result they want.

Understanding that ultimately skills aren't the reward, they lead up to something that provide new results. Knowing the reason to progressing in the skill and working on the skill feels different and awkward and it's supposed to. Be aware of this feeling of discomfort as it may become easier to quit when we don't always see the point of improving skills.

If employees think they don't have time for a skill because of the workload from a job, help them see it the WIIFM. Taking out time for this improvement would be the best way to use time and energy.

  • Network

You'd be surprised how many people want other people to succeed.

When it comes to networking, people may not understand or know the talents that their friends have. Employees know them, friends with them or work with them but what do they like to do and what are they willing to help you with?

Having this deeper connection and awareness of the people you are networking with can help you get the most out of it. Chances are there are people with some skills and talents that you are not tapping into. Wanting and welcoming the expertise of others and being available to help them is important to your network.

Using your network positively is to not use it when you are desperate. That way you don't come off demanding and unreasonable. Some things to think about when improving your network is empathy, respect and understanding. We think we know what people want and may think respect just comes from being nice. It's so much more than just a wave or a hello. Being a great help to others and actually wanting to help in your own way is beneficial when working towards a good network.

Tune in to episode 6 to find out the better perspective or word for the phrase practice makes perfect.

Know talent. Know Culture. No excuses.

  • Resources

They either use their tools are they are one.

Do you know employees who could be managing their time better? Everyone could use a little help with that but ultimately it isn't about time. One of the biggest blindspots happens when you look at time as being the most valuable.

It isn't, energy is. More specifically, the way you are spending your energy.

We have everything, all the resources, we need to get what we want. Employees may just be simply losing track of why they have the resources. It often times creates frustration because the resources serve a purpose but they may not see the true intention of why you have them. Not to save time, but to help do a job efficiently and effectively. Considering the misapplication, the abuse and the learning curve of resources will help perceive them in a different way.

If you audit regularly used resources employees may realize that not everything will incite happiness. Things either give energy or take them away. Looking for the truth and the gratitude into what resources you have can help you appreciate them more.

Juan explores the network blindspot next. Fill in the blank…You'd be surprised how many people want you to _____? See what Juan's answer is in the next episode.

Know talent. Know Culture. No excuses.

  • Systems

    Systems are a B!

B as in BEASTS! For employees they can be intimidating, confusing and or even underestimated especially when misunderstood. People can be frustrated about the systems and overwhelmed by it, but may not fully grasp what the system actually entails. If they're not mindful of it, it can and will crush us!

They may be thinking that the system is to blame but could be forgetting that there is a bigger picture and a greater perspective to think about. Inflating things that we can't control or see, sometimes may feel like it's crushing us. Ultimately there are outside forces influencing the system, and although it feels as though one person is in charge, it is the idea that systems are just an intangible agreement.

Some ways to greater understand the systems are to address the blindspots; perspective, intention and human influence. We don't know what the system really is until you start questioning it. If you become frustrated, ask yourself what will stay the same or what will change. You should also be wondering what your coworkers or peers think about the company and the questions about change.

In the next episode Juan shares his thoughts on resources. Is time the most valuable resource like many believe? Juan doesn't think so. Find out what he thinks is a little more important.
