In this message, Pastor Marc draws our attention to the first words Jesus spoke from the cross: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” At the very moment of deepest suffering, Christ did not answer cruelty with revenge or hostility. Instead, He interceded for sinners.
This sermon highlights the beauty and weight of Christ’s forgiveness. Jesus fulfilled prophecy, practiced what He had taught, and revealed that forgiveness was at the very heart of His mission in coming to this world. The cross is not only where forgiveness was purchased, but also where forgiveness is most clearly displayed.
This message also presses the truth into the believer’s daily life. Those who have been forgiven by God through Christ are commanded to forgive others in the same spirit of kindness, compassion, and grace. When believers refuse to forgive, that unforgiveness will surface in bitterness, anger, wrath, clamor, evil speaking, and malice.
This is a needed message for anyone struggling with hurt, offense, betrayal, or resentment. By looking again to Christ at Calvary, we are reminded of both the forgiveness we have received and the forgiveness we are called to extend.
