  • Carolyn Talks 'East of The Rockies' With Author Joy Kogawa

We always say to make the future better we have to learn for our past, and award winning Joy Kogawa has that same hope with East of The Rockies, a new narrative Augmented Reality (AR) interactive story created by Jam3, and based on Kogawa's experience at the Slocan interment camp in British Colombia, where she, her family and thousands of other Japanese-Canadian citizens were held during WWII.

During the media day and experimental pop-up hosted by the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival (October 31, 2019), Carolyn had the opportunity to briefly speak with Kogawa about what it was like using AR to tell her story, how history seems to be repeating itself in politics and the potential impact of East of The Rockies.

  • Carolyn Talks With Author Rebekah Weatherspoon About Romance and Thirsting

In this episode of “Carolyn Talks…” she speaks with contemporary romance writer

Rebekah Weatherspoon about creating stories about love, sex, romance and characters we wish were real.

Romance books bring immense joy to fans of the genre. It provides an entertaining escape into a worlds filled with drama, glorious heroines and swoon worthy leading men like Rafe, a bearded hulking teddy bear of a man. For her books Rebekah creates characters that many of us can relate to by placing them in realistic scenarios, and showing that people from all walks of life – with and with out disabilities- can have and deserve fulfilling live…and sex…lots of it. Her books are funny, sad, thought provoking and entertaining. As someone who has been reading romance books for more than half of my life (I probably started way too early), it was joy to speak with Rebekah about what it takes to write, and the joys of thirsting.

  • Carolyn Talks...With Hikari, Writer-Director of '37 Seconds' at TIFF 2019

For this episode of Carolyn Talks...I speak with writer and director Hikari about her film 37 Seconds, portraying sexuality and self-confidence and accessibility for disabled individuals.

From the very beginning of 37 Seconds, Hikari gives audiences a very personal, vulnerable, and intimate view of her lead character Yuma Takada, and by extension actress Mei Kayama. Audiences are placed at eye level with Yuma in a crowded train, seeing the world from her perspective, which at times felt almost overwhelming as she’s constantly careful to avoid being hit by the bags of careless travelers. When Yuma makes it home, she and her mother, Kyoko (Misuzu Kanno), discuss Yuma’s day and journey home from work.
