Professor Nazir Ismail, Clinical Microbiology And Infectious Diseases at Wits on what to make of their latest study in to the behaviour of tuberculosis patients in completion of treatment, which found that cash-incentivised and counselled have a 52% lower relative risk of having an unsuccessful treatment outcome. Professor Nazir Ismail from Wits University worked with Dr Harry Moultrie from SA’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) led the study, which was published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases journal on 6 February 2025.
