Alistair Hudson was educated at Goldsmiths' College (1988 – 1991). He is currently Director of the Middlesborough Insitute for Modern Art at Teeside University and has recently been appointed Director of the Whitworth Art Gallery at Manchester University. For the last decade prior to this he was Deputy Director of Grizedale Arts in the Lake District, gaining critical acclaim for a radical approach to working with artists and communities, based on the idea that art should be useful and not just an object of contemplation.
