The awesome cat owner cat cafe podcast is hosting Dr. Mike Lappin, a famous internal medicine specialist in infectious diseases of cats. He represents the One Health Committee of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association. Mike has a message: People are better and healthier with cats. Anything we can do to be happy will improve our life and having pets make you healthier! We also talk about what you can catch from a cat and how you can prevent that. However, if your cat is healthy and you do your deworming regularly and we control fleas and ticks, the odds that you get sick from the cat is almost zero. Mike also gives some good tips on how to stay healthy. On a funny note, when Mike gets sad, he gets a cat. He has now only five.

In our next catcafepodcast, we host Dr. Nicole Ehrhart, an amazing veterinary surgical oncologist. We are talking about cat cancer and the most common warning signs you, as a cat owner, need to look for. Cancer is common in the older cat and cats are masters of disguise. Nicole tells us what she does in her daily veterinary practice and her academic hospital really looks like a human hospital. Treating cancer is a team sport so she works closely with lots of other specialists. But she stresses the fact that the owner is part of that team too. We need to make informed decisions for a patient that can’t decide for themselves. Luckily, there are lots of options in cancer therapy and discussing these options with the cat owner is of extreme importance. In her patients, quality of life is the most important goal. What a great episode!

We are so excited to host our first guest on the Cat Cafe Podcast, Dr. Ann Hohenhaus. Dr. Ann is a tumor specialist at the Animal Medical Center in NYC. We talk about the AMC and about feral cats in New York City. Ann deals with a lot of senior cats and we highlight the top 5 diseases in the senior or older cat. Her number one tip is to regularly go to your veterinarian. Ann fosters kittens and teaches them early on to like to sleep in a carrier, so they do not mind being transported in them. We also talk about simple things that may not be normal in cats, like vomiting. Last but not least we talk about lumps and bumps. What do you need to do when you find one?

Our cats are loosely domesticated and are supposed to eat multiple times a day. In nature, they hunt small rodents and that takes almost all day and a lot of effort. In their new indoor environment, they often have nothing to do and this causes quite a lot of problems. Time to spice up the house to prevent your indoor cats to become stressed and too fat.
