In this episode, retired San Diego Police Crime Scene Investigator and Forensic DNA Expert, Tami Newquist, joins us. Tami is an experienced DNA Criminalist, skilled in Forensic DNA analysis, Courtroom Testimony, Firearms Handling, Public Safety Training, District Attorney Training, Law Enforcement, and Crime Scene Investigation and Reconstruction. Tami spent 21 years as a DNA Criminalist in the SDPD Crime Lab, 8 years as a Field Evidence Technician Coordinator and Trainer, and 14 years as a Crime Scene Reconstructionist. Tami has received numerous Commanding Officer Citations and Attorney Commendations. Tami was recognized by the International Latino Gang Investigators' Association for her extensive work on the Los Palillos Cartel cases, the largest DNA case series in San Diego history. The cases involved nine murders and 17 kidnappings committed by Mexican drug cartel members in San Diego County. In that case, several of the victims were melted in acid, and Tami was the first to develop a DNA profile from the melted biological tissue successfully. Tami is currently the owner and partner of Streamline DNA and Crime Scene Consultants, alongside her husband, a retired homicide detective. Tami's expertise in DNA technology has advanced crime scene investigation. That has played a key part in the criminal justice system. It enables accurate identification and exoneration of individuals, increasing the fairness and efficiency of investigations.
