Sara’s plight worsens as the cook tells her that she's not allowed to have anything to eat but some bread. Ermengarde gets a care package from her aunt and brings it to the attic. She, Sara, and Becky have a party. Finally, some food! Not only that, Ram Daas sneaks over when the girls are sleeping and redecorates the attic. He would be arrested for that today, but back then, not so much. Now, Sara’s got some fancy new digs.

After a week of rain, and spending a ton of time with Colin, Mary is finally able to return to the secret garden. To Mary, Colin doesn't seem sick at all when he is amused or engaged in something. 

Although Mrs. Medlock is somewhat upset by Mary's subterfuge, she tells her that things have been a lot easier on the servants now that he has a friend. In her talks with Colin, Mary is cautious about speaking of the secret garden. She is not yet certain whether he is trustworthy.

Mr. Craven grants her wish to use any bit of earth she likes on the grounds. He doesn’t realize she means The Secret Garden.
