Colin, Mary, and Dickon meticulously plan Colin’s trip to the garden to ensure no one discovers their secret. Colin commands head gardener Mr. Roach to keep staff away. 

As Dickon wheels Colin through the garden door, he is overcome by the vibrant spring life and fresh air, color rushes to Colin’s cheeks and he decides he will get well and live forever.

Colin asks about a large dead tree (the very tree his mother fell from), but Dickon and Mary subtly distract him, and the peaceful afternoon is interrupted when Ben Weatherstaff angrily peers over the garden wall from a ladder, shouting insults at Mary for trespassing

Mary tells Dickon about Colin's dramatic tantrums. They decide that Dickon and his animals should come to the manor house to visit Colin and coax him outside.  Mary and Colin bond over their shared history of isolation and loneliness.

Dr. Craven visits Colin and is shocked to find him surprisingly calm, in good spirits, and not requiring any medicine that day.

Dickon comes to meet Colin with some of his animal pals. After meeting Dickon, Colin is determined to get outside and see the secret garden.

Sara’s plight worsens as the cook tells her that she's not allowed to have anything to eat but some bread. Ermengarde gets a care package from her aunt and brings it to the attic. She, Sara, and Becky have a party. Finally, some food! Not only that, Ram Daas sneaks over when the girls are sleeping and redecorates the attic. He would be arrested for that today, but back then, not so much. Now, Sara’s got some fancy new digs.

Later, Melchisedec is chilling, just minding his own business when the skylight opens and two people crawl through. Oh no! Could it be thieves?! No, it's just Ram Dass and a young man, the Indian gentleman's secretary.  They aren’t there to steal anything, but they are there to make life better for Sara.
