In recent weeks, Catholic Charities of Lake County has welcomed two new leaders to its executive team, and the new Schreiber Center for Human Services has increased its programming. Join Marie Jochum and Brigid Murphy as they welcome Thomas Powers, new Chairman of the Lake County Board of Advisors, and Kristen Flanagan, Lake County Regional Project Manager to discuss how Catholic Charities in Lake County continues to innovate and work with community partners to address urgent needs of vulnerable residents.

The fourth-grade students from Academy of St. Benedict the African researched and learned about historic African American people in honor of Black History Month. Students summarized their research and created a costume to present their historic person via a video. These videos were compiled to create a unique wax museum. In solidarity with hungry children around the world, St. Ferdinand School students had a Rice Bowl lunch last week. Through having a bowl of rice for lunch, students were able to empathize with people around the world that may only have a small bowl of rice as a meal. Students are collecting money for Catholic Relief Services during Lent through the Operation Rice Bowl Project. Students prayed for the those who are hungry and learned how the money they will raise through Operation Rice Bowl will be used to help improve the lives of those in need.  Guests:  Erin Boyle Folino; Freida "Ms. Koko" Kokosioulis; Karina (Third-grade student); Jayden (Eighth-grade student).

Sr. Anita Baird, DHM (Religious Congregation of the Society of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary) and Sr. Maria Cimperman, RSCJ (Religious Society of the Sacred Heart) return as guests  to promote their upcoming event, “A Call to Transformative Love in Religious Life: Stories of Race, Place and Grace – Series 2”. This is a 3-part series, jointly sponsored by the Center for the Study of Consecrated Life and The National Black Sisters’ Conference on three Mondays this month: March 8, 15 and 22.

Sr. Maria also talks about her experience as presenter to an international audience with the Union of International Superiors General (UISG) about her book, “Religious Life for Our World: Creating Communities of Hope” (available from Orbis Books and Amazon).
