Catholic Emancipation in 1829 was one of the turning points in Irish history. A mass campaign spearheaded by Daniel O’Connell brought formal discrimination of Catholics to an end. This had far reaching consequences in Ireland and beyond. In this podcast I look at why exactly catholics needed to be emancipated, how they achieved it and what the consequences were.
