To do this I’m going to be joined by Dr Tracy Sullivan. Dr Tracy Sullivan has extensive experience as a large and small animal veterinarian, researcher and a decade's experience working as an accredited bull semen morphologist. She is an active member of the Australian Cattle Vets (ACV), promoter of BULLCHECK and is focused on producer education and the importance of semen analysis as a tool for male fertility evaluation.

Welcome to the cattle station classroom podcast. In todays lesson we are going to learn about the Australian Beef Report. 

The Australian Beef Report shows you the financial and production performance of family owned beef businesses in Australia. It has been written for profit focussed producers, industry service professionals and other industry stakeholders who would like to better understand, and improve, beef business performance in Australia at the production level.

You might be thinking "Oh no, this is wayyyy about my pay grade!", BUT there is something for everyone in this report!

There are three important components of the Australian Beef Report: 2020 Vision:

1. 1. It is an industry reference point with detailed current information on the financial and production performance of the Australian beef industry,
   2. The Pastoral Panel chapter presents the advice of 27 wise heads in the industry, providing insights into how they think and how they approach decision making, business and life.
   3. There is a dedicated chapter on the effective utilisation and preservation of the natural resource base, providing insights into how to best manage it for profit and sustainability.

In this episode we are joined by Ian McLean.

Ian established Bush AgriBusiness in 2009, combining his enthusiasm for agriculture and business. Ian holds a Master of Business Administration and is accredited as a Chartered Agriculturist by the Ag Institute of Australia.

Welcome to the cattle station classroom podcast. In todays lesson we are going to learn about heifer management. Here’s the thing – heifers need special treatment compared to cows. They’re a little more high maintainenace, but it’s really important because if a heifer isn’t setup for success from the start, it can mess up her breeding life.

In this episode we are joined by Dr Geoff Neithe. Geoff is a former director of the large animal teaching clinics at the University of Queensland veterinary school based in Goondiwindi and past president of both the Australian Cattle Veterinarians and the Australian Veterinary Association, and currently working as a consultant to meat and livestock Australia. Heifer management is Geoff’s greatest passion, and we’re very excited to have him on the show today.

Welcome to the Cattle Station Classroom Podcast. In today’s lesson we are going to be learning about phosphorus and the impacts of a phosphorus deficiency in cattle.

Cattle need phosphorus for almost every vital function of the body. It is used for building bones and teeth, metabolising fat, carbohydrates and protein, producing milk and for efficient feed utilisation.

The problem of phosphorus deficiency arises because most soils in northern Australia are deficient in phosphorus and cattle cannot get sufficient P from the pasture.
