On October 28, 2004, two cave divers and long-time friends, Don Shirley and David Shaw, nicknamed “Dave”, planned a dive at Boesmansgat (also known in English as “Bushman’s Hole”) a deep, submerged freshwater cave in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. Dave dove to 886 ft (270 m), touched the bottom and started exploring. At that time, Dave had broken four records at one time, including depth in a cave on a rebreather. While on the dive, he found a body that had been there for nearly ten years, 20-year-old diver Deon Dreyer. Dave decided that he wanted to come back and retrieve the body, despite the exceptionally dangerous conditions.#diving #caving #cavediving #gonewrong #caves #disaster #tragedy #unfortunate #scary #daveshaw #davenotcomingback #rebreather
