8. In Medway and beyond we have a dream of a church that worships in Spirit and Truth; a house of prayer for all nations, empowered and led by the Holy Spirit.  It sees and experiences God at work in a powerful way. 

This has been God’s Plan, God’s Heart since the very beginning. Adam walked us through the Bible record to show the plan in its iterations. 

Heavenly Temple 

  → Creation / Earth 

     → Tabernacle 

        → Temple 

           → Jesus (John 2 18-19 “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”) 

→ Church / Body (1 Corinthians 3 16-17 “Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?” and 1 Corinthians 6 19 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own”)

7. In Medway and beyond we have a dream of a church that is confident in its beliefs, established, feeding on and obeying the Word. It proclaims and explains the Bible’s big story to a world hungry for reliable truth.

This week we were at Hundred of Hoo Academy for our regular “Cornerstone Together” meeting. Adam spoke, taking us through the next paragraph of our church vision.

5. In Medway and beyond we have a dream of a church that is an attractive heavenly community of God, it has a healthy family atmosphere. It embraces all ethnicities, classes, young or old, married and single, rich and poor.

Tony was with us today, expanding on what it means for us to be a “heavenly community”. What will it look like when people looks at Jesus’ Church and see that we are different, that we have something they haven’t, that we have “been with Jesus”?

3. In Medway and beyond we have a dream of a church that is holy, truly distinct from the world around it; enough to make the city sit up and take notice.  

We, Christ’s church, His people, we are a holy people. Joe helped us see what this means.  It doesn’t mean we have to work extra hard to stand out. It’s what He has made us! We live like that because of who we are. 

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2 9-12 

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10 19-25

Adam was with us this Sunday – and challenging! As Jesus said, the poor will always be with us.  2012 landmark research by Economic and Social Research Council shows that, in the UK, about 1/3 of households are affected. 

4 million people not fed properly 

2.5 million children in damp homes 

2.3 million households can’t heat living areas of home 

30 million people have financial insecurity 

So what is our answer? Where do we start if we are going to be the Church that God calls us to be; the Church that brings a gospel that is “good news to the poor”?
