Pharmaceutical companies create and manufacture psychiatric drugs for which they cannot even explain the “therapeutic mechanism” (i.e., they don't know how the drug “works” to achieve its effect).  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves these drugs for conditions such as “bipolar disorder” or “social anxiety disorder” which are based not on medical proof of disease but on a psychiatric consensus that a certain set of behaviors equals a mental disorder.  In today's show, Dr. David Stein, who has twice testified before the FDA, contends that pharmaceutical poisons for fictitious mental disorders, as well as numerous other aspects to this psychiatric “hocus-pocus,” are putting people—including children—at grave risk.

The drugging of children within the foster care system is growing out of control. Millions of American children are given dangerous psychiatric drugs. With hundreds of advertisements weekly for antidepressants, antipsychotics and other psychiatric drugs on television, in print and on the Internet, we as a society are being bombarded with the message “there's a pill for everything.” The psychiatric industry, comprised of psychiatrists and the pharmaceutical industry, has sold the public on the fact that such “mental disorders” are the result of a mysterious “chemical imbalance” in the brain that only their drugs can correct. Outrageous statistics are reporter such as “1 out of 3 people have a mental disorder.” Psychiatry's pitch that mental disorders are on par with verifiable medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease has elevated their profession and made them a tremendous amount of money by selling drugs as a solution. This is despite psychiatry's diagnostic manual, the DSM, being nothing more than a collection of opinions. Dr. Moira Dolan, an internal medicine physician and executive director of Medical Accountability Network, completely debunks the “chemical imbalance” theory of mental illness and covers how the psychiatric industry is in the business of “disease mongering” in order to sell drugs in this 43-minute show.

Ask any psychiatrist or doctor what causes mental illness and they will tell you the same thing – no one knows exactly. The most common explanation for mental disorders is a ''chemical imbalance'' in the brain, but this is an unproven theory. Imagine for a moment that you're a child in the foster care system in the US; you don't have a family, you live in a state-run institution, and you along with more than half of the other foster kids are forced to take psychiatric drugs which give you horrific side effects. You are literally treated worse than a prisoner, and you're just a kid. The horrible truth is that today, 52 percent of foster care kids are being given psychiatric drugs including antidepressants and powerful antipsychotics. That's about a quarter of a million kids in the U.S. alone on drugs that cause depression, psychosis, aggression, mania, violent and suicidal tendencies. These children need a voice. There is no end to the number of and the complexity of problems that arise from our misplaced trust in psychiatrists, their diagnostic charades, and their mind-altering drug solutions. Inestimable damage has already been done to individual lives. Wherever psychiatry intervenes, the environment becomes more dangerous, more unsettled, more disturbed. While life is full of problems, and sometimes those problems can be overwhelming, it is important to know that psychiatry, its diagnoses and its drugs are the wrong direction to go. This week's guest, Edward Gawrys, learned this in the most unfortunate way. He lost his best friend and wife of 23 years from the toxic effects of psychiatric drugs and he wants to warn the world.

In the last thirty years, the number of people taking psychiatric drugs has more than tripled to over 100 million users today. This includes drugging 20 million schoolchildren with stimulants and other psychotropic drugs. Yet, there's no scientific basis for all this drugging. But that hasn't stopped psychiatrists from pronouncing themselves ''mental health experts.''  Private insurance companies pay out $21 billion every year for psychiatric services in the U.S., and while raking in $165 billion annually, psychiatry cannot point to a single cure.
