On this week's episode we take a look at the new documentary Free Solo. We also discuss which company is better for movie theatres - Amazon or Netflix, we check in with the specialty box office, we try to figure out if First Man is a box office failure and we reveal our #CedarLee3 picks for our favorite films about obsession.
Art House News:
The specialty Box Office this week had some early indications that Amazon has a hit film in Beautiful Boy. 2018 is the first year that Amazon has distributed their own films, and so far they haven't seen that much success - financially speaking.
First Man is being interpreted as a potential box office failure after less than a week in wide release. It seems a little premature for a film that is connecting with audiences.
New Film:
Free Solo (Elizabeth Chai Vasharhelyi and Jimmy Chin)
#CedarLee3:
This week's list of films you should be watching was inspired by Free Solo and Alex Honnold's obsession to free climb El Capitan's 3,000ft wall. We pick of our favorite films about obsession. Characters with a drive that won't be stopped. Fitzcarraldo (1982), Man on Wire (2008), All About Eve (1950), Misery (1990), Zodiac (2007) and Whiplash (2014).

Art House News:
The specialty Box Office this week was all about Free Solo (again) and Colette. Free Solo crossed the $1 million dollar mark this past weekend (on only 41 screens) and looks to be the doc hit of the fall.

The specialty Box Office this week was all about Colette and it's spectacular debut in limited release. It opens here on October 12th.
The expectations for any film directed by Michael Moore have been unrealistic for years, and Fahrenheit 11/9 is no exception. Unfortunately, Moore himself isn't helping by setting unrealistic expectations himself.

In Art House News this week:
Why TIFF is Great for Art House Business - Since 2010, the Audience Award Winners coming out of Toronto have been; The King's Speech, Silver Linings Playbook, 12 Years a Slave, The Imitation Game, Room, La La Land and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. So we'll pay attention to all the buzz and awards…so check back next week for more. For now, we check in on Fahrenheit 11/9 (opening next week) and TV Shows premiering at a film festival.
Box Office Hits (on the Art House Circuit) - Why you don't see that hit festival film the same time film geeks in NYC are able to. It's not us, we swear. We use the release of Sony Pictures Classics The Wife as an example of how to perfectly build critical buzz and audience interest in a film, while taking their sweet time getting the film to us in Cleveland.
Also on this episode: Cedar Lee 3 - our list of films you should be seeing this week was inspired by Glenn Close and her powerful performance in The Wife. She's been nominated for an Oscar 6 times (hope, hope #7 on the way), but has never won. So, we list our Top 3 Oscar Snubs.
