This week we talked about hope in the context of Jesus' words: "...you will be with me in paradise."

In this first week of Lent, we looked at Jesus' words, "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing."

Today we look at what it means for God to be Light, and the call for us, too, to be the light of the world.

This week we look at the historical context, authorship, structure and major themes of 1 John.

This week we looked at how kindness defies the darkness, and is a prophetic act that extends the kingdom of God. We looked at cynicism in the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden, and meditated on the Sermon on the Mount.

This week we talked about how to truly listen and have empathy with one another as an expression of kindness.

This week we talked about how kindness needs to be expressed through the pursuit of justice. Since injustice is a product of the illusion of separateness, justice (kindness in action) needs to come from recognition of our oneness with God and with each other, drawing on the love of Jesus.

This week we look at our motivations for being kind, and examples from Jesus found in the gospels. We looked at how we are called to be like Jesus in being "kinder than necessary" to everyone, without condescension, even when we don't feel like it--because we are children of God.

Today we celebrate the season of Epiphany and reflect on how the baby born in Bethlehem begins his life-work as an adult in Galilee. We will look at the implications for ourselves in terms of the opportunity presented by disruption, our need for enlightenment, the value of finding a rhythm in life, and the need for perseverance.
