In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus faced a moment of intense anguish. He prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42). 

This moment reveals a profound truth: We often want to escape discomfort and avoid suffering, but God’s grace empowers us to trust His will over our own. Jesus, fully aware of the suffering ahead, still chose submission. It’s in His darkest hour that we see the depth of His trust in the Father. 

God’s grace trains us to embrace discomfort as a catalyst for growth. When we face overwhelming circumstances, we can follow Jesus’ example by praying, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” God’s grace will strengthen us to endure the trials, reminding us that our struggles can lead to deeper faith and understanding. 

Through our trials, we learn to rely on God’s strength instead of our own. His grace enables us to grow and prepare for the plans He has for us, turning our trials into testimonies of His faithfulness.

Grace doesn’t just save you—it transforms you and empowers you to live beyond your natural ability.

We’ve all had moments when we prayed for something, expected God to show up in a specific way, and then… He didn’t. Maybe you thought, If God really cares, why didn’t He answer my prayer just the way I asked Him to? 

The disciples knew exactly what that felt like. At the Last Supper, they believed Jesus was the Messiah, but they had their own ideas of what that meant. They expected Him to overthrow the Roman government and establish a kingdom of power. Instead, Jesus spoke of humility, sacrifice, and servanthood. 

Jesus’ words flipped their expectations upside down: “The greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves” (Luke 22:26). The disciples wanted a warrior king, but Jesus offered them a servant Savior. They wanted revolution; Jesus offered humility. 

Here’s the truth: Jesus doesn’t always meet our expectations because He’s doing something far bigger than we can imagine. Even when life feels dark and God seems absent, Romans 8:28 reminds us that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” 

This is where God’s grace empowers us. It enables us to let go of our preconceived notions of how God should work and trust in His perfect plan. Grace helps us to be open to the ways He is moving, even when we can’t see the outcome. Will we hold onto our expectations of who Jesus should be? Or will we trust Him for who He really is?
