Our interview today with Kathy Gleason, will help us see the journey into Hospice care and palliative care and understanding the next steps in this journey. I am not a mental health counselor. Nor am I a therapist, social worker, or credentialed clinician of any type. I have worked and continue to volunteer in the realm of hospice and palliative care. My greatest knowledge of grief is because I am a griever. Four times in my life I have lost someone vital. Each experience was different. I believe grief is a lifelong state. We learn to live with our grief and continue. Hence, our title, As I Live and Grieve.

Meet Shanice Green, a young woman who has been battling Arnold Chiari Malformation, Syringomyelia, Scoliosis, and Syringobulbia since birth. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries and having to use a wheelchair her entire life, she remains strong and determined to live life to the fullest.

Alexandra Derwen is based in Snowdonia in the UK, for the past 5 years Alexandra has been the lead facilitator on a Death Doula training course.  In her 30s Alexandra changed career and trained as an interfaith minister and started to lead funerals.  Ceremony and Ritual for Death and Dying” which was published by Wyse women in 2021 and developed an online course to accompany the book.

Our interview today with Lisa Marie is going to be fabulous. Her experiences in life and the many loved ones that she has lost will hopefully give you some tips on how to cope. Lisa Marie had tragedy struck. She lost 12 loved ones within a 22 month period; including her parents and her 24-year-old son-in-law. The amount of grief was nearly too much to bear. Lisa Marie was drowning. But, she carried her grief, and took on the grief of others. Especially her daughter’s pain. There are no words. She knew if SHE was going to survive, mentally and emotionally, she needed to make drastic changes. Life is short and fragile and she was no longer going to be stuck! Grief comes in many forms, not just loss through death. Any type of loss that causes pain, such as loss of relationships, divorce, friendships, job, identity, health, independence, community, faith, etc…
