Discussing all the words not to say and all the words to say to someone suffering from grief of all sorts, because they do come in different shapes and sizes! One of the most common things people said to Vic and her family in the early days was “I really don’t know what to say…” Vic said she was acutely aware that, for once, Vic didn’t have the words, either. She read a lot and tried to absorb the advice and wisdom. Vic decided to write a book about the – mostly kind – things people said, and did, in the short period between the sudden death of her niece' death and the funeral.  She has always enjoyed words and took to writing about her overwhelming experiences following the sudden death of her niece, Mary-Lou, in 2020. She came up with the working title Sixteen Days after spending a long time reflecting. Vic offers advice for anyone dealing with family, colleagues or clients who are recently bereaved.

Since recovering from depression in 2014, he’s been on a quest to help ten million men struggling with depression, one man at a time. He’s practiced Internal Medicine over thirty years. Colonel Mondragon is a twenty-six-year Army veteran,

spent eighteen months in combat zones, and is national wrestling champion. Some of the lessons that apply to wrestling, recovering from depression, and to life in general, include: the importance of coaches and teammates, prevention always trumps rehab, laughter is good medicine, and get your head up!

Here's Lisa Zawrotny from New York!  Lisa lived for years with clutter and chaos in her home due to caring for a sick parent ( Mom had Alzheimer’s) while managing a household with husband, kids and cats…all while attempting to run multiple businesses. It was, without a doubt, one of the most difficult times in her life. Lisa survived it by ignoring non-essentials and allowing them to pile up around her. (She later realized that she had sacrificed some essentials too.) She let go of as much as she could and focused on keeping her mother and two very small children safe and well and socialized, though she didn’t always do the same for her. Lisa rode the roller coaster of emotions that comes with constant uncertainty and sleep deprivation, mom guilt and caregiver guilt, and so much more. Alan J Placer, came from a very broken home and was abandoned by his parents and siblings at 9. Raising himself, he thankfully made a conscious decision at that age to become a "good man", whatever that meant. After high school Alan became a firefighter/EMT because he thought it would make him a better man. While decorated with many rescue awards, he retired after responding to Ground Zero on 9/11. This interview goes deeper into Alan's journey!
