#119: Trump's Tariffs and Michigan Atheist Convention

Cellar Door Skeptics is back with another amazing episode chock full segments ready to educate and anger you. The show begins with a memoriam tribute to all those who no longer work in the Trump Administration. The duo continues as they talk through the new steel and aluminum tariffs that Trump and the GOP are pushing on the world. They discuss the effects this could have on different industries and how maybe it is not the best way to Make America Great Again.

Then a great interview with Steve from Michigan Atheist joins the show to talk about the upcoming convention and the history of the Michigan Atheist Organization. This is a great local conference that is worth getting everyone together to talk about family this year.

Lastly the Chris Squared address what to do when well known and influential scientists, present material that conflict with the current scientific theory. They address how to handle it while ensuring that we all remain skeptic. They want to believe, but ensure a challenge is in place to not just accept bunk science. We all know not all science can be believed just because the person presenting it is well known or had an amazing discovery.

#118: Not Another Atheist Podcast and Bad Sex in Fiction

This week the duo are joined by long time friends and supporters of the show, Jen and Keith from Not Another Atheist Podcast. After last weeks episode where once again the team had to address the ridiculousness of America’s inability to get mass murder under control in the country, they decide to take a break from the mayhem and hangout with Jen and Keith.

The show starts out saucy with a look at the “Worst Sex Scenes in Fiction” once again. Last year Hanna and Tanner covered 2016’s worst sex scenes and laughed the hardest they had in a long time. So they decided to do it all over again and read through some of the best (or worst) of 2017. Be prepared for honest emissions and some raunchy good time.

For the last part of the show, Jen and Keith help Chris Squared to work through a Proust Questionnaire. They read through some of the best get to know you questions while learning more about the inner workings of their fellow podcasters. This segment is sure to entertain as many honest truths are revealed and a few Trump impersonations to lighten the mood.

Cellar Door Skeptics has a riveting episode prepared for everyone. This episode has two topics; Atheist Conventions and Gun Control.

David Silverman joins the duo this week to talk about the American Atheist Convention coming up on Easter weekend. They talk about the dynamic of the convention, their desire to present an activist convention while still holding true to their atheist roots. American Atheist also is working hard to give back to the community even during their convention.

After the interview Chris Squared talk about the argument some people are posing that since drunk driving accidents are caused by people wielding cars and no one is seeking to ban cars, then why are people seeking to ban guns. They talk through this misconception and discuss more comprehensible gun laws inside of the United States. They are not out to ban guns but to lower the amount of mass shootings and gun deaths inside of States.

#115: Care in Chaos

Cellar Door Skeptics dedicated the podcast to helping bring to light stories that may enrage you, enthrall you, educate you, and entertain you. Tonight’s episode comes with a content warning.

CN: Abortion Clinic Violence / Anti-Choice Violence

This episode has a special place in the hearts of the host. Their first topic for the tonight is a great interview with Lindsay Beyerstein and her new documentary “Care in Chaos”. The filmmaker talks about her experiences with a couple of women’s health clinics that are being bombarded by antics from Anti-Choice groups that will make your blood boil. This heartfelt look at how awful our nation can be, shows the strength and courage of the women who work at these clinics.

As the episode rolls onward, the duo discuss extreme poverty in America, and how the a new study finds poverty of the world is not always combated with compassion and action, but with laws forcing homeless people to struggle and dig themselves a deeper ditch. They do not go off about healthcare this time but about the poor treatment of our nations and the world's poor people.

The last segment they lighten up the show with a discussion on Hanlon’s Razor and a new study on dogs breeding the best traits from wolves. Both are a unique inquiry into some of the suttle thoughts the team has as they prep for each episode.

#114: Deportation without Explanation

Better late than never, Cellar Door Skeptics is back this week with a more serious episode than the previous week. This week the duo tackles Mexican American Repatriation. They talk about how America has before exported immigrants both legal and illegal without much consideration of the family. As the team learns about how history seems to repeat itself, they reflect on how Trump wants to bring back deportation without explanation.

Their conversation continues with another discussion on income inequality. This time though they analyze a study that has come out about how 1% of owning more than 80% of the wealth last year. The analysis does not just cover our country but the whole world.

The closing segment shares their views on the new solar tariffs that the current administration is going to allow. They talk about how the coal industry and oil industry will be able to continue their pollution tactics while harming the solar industry. Also the new tariffs do not demonstrate a desire to grow local businesses as local business to the US make all the components for the frames that are used in the US. We talk through how the new tariffs won’t help make america great again.

#111: Jeff Sessions Love of Marijuana / American Immigration History

Cellar Door Skeptics was able to find Jeff Sessions, hiding in the closet this week, smoking a big bag of “how to screw over states rights” this week. They tackle how his memo will affect the legalized marijuana industry along with his uncompromising desire to see all marijuana removed from society so he can be the King of Pot and secretly have enough pot to smoke the rest of his life. They analyze if it is too late for Jeff and his elk along with whether even the Senate has had enough to push a legalization movement through the Federal Government. Later the duo tackles Cory Booker's epic rant on Trump’s “Shithole Nation” non-comment. Lastly they close the show out reviewing NPR’s interview on immigration, the original standards to get into America, and how America tried to doom 907 refugees trying to escape Nazi Germany to death by regretting them from coming into America. The similarities to how Americans have treated Refugees and Immigrants over the last 200 decades is astounding and the duo hope to flesh out a better way to receive those who want to shelter within America.

#110: Kicking Off 2018

In Cellar Door Skeptic's first show of the New Year, after a two week hiatus, the duo is back to talk about some weird and wild things as Johnny Carson used to say. They talk through "New Years Resolutions", Trumps Tweets and Tantrums, along with which button on which desk is the biggest. The show gets a little more serious as they review an article about how a neuroscientist discovered that he was a psychopath. The show ends with a look at whether the Republican economic plan has generated more work for the US and if Trump has actually grown jobs or are his numbers are nothing more than fake news.
