It was a day of tension, of drama, and ultimately of relief as Celtic snatched all three points on a topsy-turvy Sunday at Rugby Park.
As planned, the travelling support made their feelings clear before kick-off, staging a powerful protest against the board by refusing to enter until the 12th minute — a nod to their role as the “12th Man.”
A statement that surely made for uncomfortable viewing in the directors’ box.
On the pitch, though, Celtic took time to find their rhythm. Despite dominating possession in the first half, the breakthrough wouldn’t come.
Enter new Bhoy Sebastian Tounekti. The Tunisian winger lit up the second half with a sparkling debut, driving at the Kilmarnock defence and constantly asking questions.
Daizen Maeda’s opener would be cancelled out by the hosts, but the drama was far from over.
Deep into stoppage time, another debutant — Kelechi Iheanacho — stepped up and coolly dispatched a 96th-minute penalty to seal a dramatic 2-1 win.
It wasn’t a swashbuckling performance by any stretch, but it was certainly a day to remember — both for what happened on the park and in the stands.
