Here we are with another maddening loss to the Cavaliers in OT. Celtics fall 114-113 tonight but today didn't look as bad as our first loss against them. Last game the Celtics got killed on the boards and let Levert and Mitchell go God mode on us and we gave up a ridiculous 132pts and got killed in that OT. Today, I thought we were much better defensively while there were certainly some lapses. Offensively, we moved the ball really well in the first half assisting on 15 of our 18fgm but couldn't keep up that intensity in the second half. We saw a lot of glimpses of greatness but this is the problem we keep running into. We all know this team has a ton of talent and potential as it has only improved from last year's Finals run by adding Malcolm Brogdon. HOWEVER, we keep seeing just glimpses and not consistency which is the maddening part.
The second quarter tonight was masterful. We battled back after being down double digits and took a 12 pt lead after outscoring the Cavs 29-15 in that second quarter. Just like the NBA tagline, it was poetry in motion. Then the wheels fell off the wagon once again and we get outscored 33-20 in the third. All season long, I know it has only been 7 games, we haven't seen this team put together a really strong 4 straight quarters. I think Joe Mazzula has done a lot of things really well but my only complaints so far is how long we waits to call timeouts and how many 3pt shots he is allowing this team to take. The Cavs went on a couple of runs today that Joe was 3 possessions too late calling a timeout. The Celtics also took 41 3pt attempts today and shot 26.8%. This isn't good enough to continue jacking them up and that is something the coach should be trying to wrangle in. Turnovers were another huge issue for us today as we allowed 15pts off 14 turnovers. Celtics need to bounce back Friday night against the Bulls to avoid back at .500 after a pretty hot 3-0 start to the season.
