Celtics Smoke Hawks. 1-0 In Series. 15 Wins Left!!
The Celtics beat the Hawks 112-99 and this was over as soon as it started. The Celtics found themselves with a 30pt halftime lead after an unbelievable showing on both sides of the ball. They held the Hawks to just 44 first half points and were on a string all night defensively. The Hawks were challenged on every shot and the Celtics were getting their hands in passing lanes the entire game. The first half offense for the Celtics was also as good as it gets. They were super aggressive getting into the body of both Trae and Murray and were getting easy buckets at the rim whenever they wanted. They still shot the ball well from deep (9-16) but it was the 36 points in the paint that was super impressive. Derrick White was probably the star of the game ending with 24pts 5reb and 7ast on a super efficient 7-13 from the field and 4-7 from 3. On top of a stellar night for White, both of the Jays played really well on both sides of the ball as well. Tatum ended the night with 25pts 11reb while JB finished with 29pts 12reb. Both of them had their highs and lows but overall it was an impressive night. Tatum had 21pts in the first half and only 4 in the second. Despite JB's great night, he also had a team high 6 turnovers. Neither of these are things that mattered in the grand scheme of things.
We also saw some really good performances throughout the 8 man rotation we saw tonight. Smart had, arguably, the best defensive game we have seen from him in months including 3stl and 2blks but was also moving the ball really well offensively with his 7ast. Horford, who was quiet on the offensive end, hit a big 3 to go up 15 after a big Hawks run but also had 2 huge blocks on Murray at the rim. Timelord was a force to be reckoned with as well ending the night with 12pts 8reb 1stl 1blk all while being 6-6 from the field. This Hawks team might not be great BUT they were the highest scoring offense in the Eastern Conference all year averaging 118.4PPG and the Celtics held them to just 99. This win certainly wasn't perfect as the Celtics scored just 38pts in the second half but they pulled off the first win of the series taking a 1-0 lead and are now just 15 wins from raising Banner 18!
