The NBA Trade Deadline has passed and the Celtics made a solid move. The Celtics currently stand with the best record in the entire NBA and arguably had the deepest team in the league after Brad acquired Brogdon this offseason. With that being said, nobody was expecting the Celtics to make major moves this trade deadline. To me, their biggest need was added depth at the wing position and not necessarily at the 4/5 position but that is what we saw happen instead. The Celtics traded Justin Jackson and 2 second round picks for shooting big man Mike Muscala from the Thunder.
For those of you who don't know Muscala very well, here are some stats that I'm sure you will like. Muscala boasted a 116 offensive rating which was 3rd on the Thunder, a 106 defensive rating which was first on the Thunder, he was an 84% FT shooter as well. On top of that, the Thunder scored 8.3pts more with him on the court vs off which puts him in the 94th percentile and his plus minus is in the 96th percentile. Some fans may have wanted more but this guy can flat out shoot. In fact, over the last 10 seasons, Mike Muscala has had the best 3pt% amongst NBA bigs shooting a whopping 37.9% and he is even more efficient this season. On top of that, he has formed the NBAs best pick and roll game alongside Shai as far as pts per possession goes. This might not be the "sexy" move that people were looking for but we got him for Justin Jackson and 2 second rounders.... This is a big win for the Celtics. Now it is time to turn to the Buyout Market and try to add some depth at the wing! Go Listen to the podcast to hear the full story.
