Times may be tough but there have always been tough times. Our call is not to complain but to shine, holding fast to the word of life and offering our lives as sacrifices of thanksgiving. *Correction: The quotation incorrectly attributed to Diogenes is actually from early Christian literature, a letter to Diognetus, and dates between 130-200AD.

We do not drift toward maturity. We naturally drift toward selfishness and spiritual apathy. The apostle Paul lovingly exhorts the Philippians and us to “stay the course” and to “work out” what God has worked in us.

The church of Philippi was a good church, but not a perfect church. Hearing of signs of discord, Paul exhorts them to unity through humility, especially based on what they have been given in Christ and what Jesus himself modeled. We naturally look out for our own interests, however Jesus served and sacrificed for our interests. What is your “interest rate”?

Countering those who would lead believers away from God's Son, Jesus Christ and the life he gives, John encourages his readers to protect themselves from idols that would take Jesus' rightful place in their lives. As we follow Jesus Christ, we are charged with guarding ourselves from the same subtle and not-so-subtle threats that would replace Him.

In spite of his chains, Paul has joy. And even though he desires to be with Christ, he resolves to honor God and continue to be Christ's minister for the progress and joy of others. As long as we are here, there remains growth and ministry for us.

What seems bad, and may in fact be bad, God can use for His glory. Live intentionally. Leverage your influence. Leave an impact.

True love is not just emotion or even blind but based upon knowledge. Paul prays that our love would grow more and more discerning, and our lives more and more fruitful.

Salvation is by grace - from start to finish. Fix your eyes on Jesus, not on your failures, not on your fickle faith.

Easter Service. The resurrection shows that Jesus is utterly unique; His claims and work demand worship and witness.

Christians are partakers in the Gospel of grace and partners in its proclamation - prayerfully, personally, financially, and faithfully.
