Treasure God. Covetousness is idolatry for it is misplaced love. Covetousness places things, people, relationships, and positions above God. The only cure for covetousness is to love and treasure God as supreme.

God’s promises give strength against temptation. In this passage Jesus warns the false disciples of their unbelief, but He offers the promise of forgiveness to those who turn to Him. Jesus also reminds His followers that God promises to be with them and guide them even when they face suffering for His sake.

God’s promises give strength against temptation. In this passage Jesus warns against two pitfalls that seek to sidetrack His followers: hypocrisy and fear. But Jesus also gives two promises that combat those pitfalls: God's promise to reward, and God's promise of care. Followers of Jesus can flee from temptation by resting in God's promises.

But these only become outward appearances behind which a wicked heart resides. It is only through faith in Jesus that one is forgiven and a given new heart in Christ.

Choose what is best, delight yourself in Jesus. We can easily become distracted in our walk with the Lord. Instead of serving Him out of love we do so out of duty or selfish ambition. In the story of Mary and Martha we are reminded that we need to delight ourselves in our Savior and serve Him from a heart of love.
