Central Coast Uncorked

This time change has us dreaming about long, hot summer afternoons that bleed into more tolerable evenings. Evenings spent sipping on wine, sitting on a large lawn, listening to some local music and watching kids and dogs play. Do you know the perfect spot to do ALL those things? We discovered one such spot when we visited Riverstar Winery a couple weeks back. They’ve got a lot to offer as a stop along the Pleasant Valley Wine trail. Check it out and then go check them out! This week is a little bit of a change of pace. We’re not releasing an episode about a winery, but we still wanted to touch base. It’s short and sweet, and just Jamie this time around. We will be back next week with some freshfresh content!

There’s nothing we like better than some nibbles with our wine. Wine is meant to go with food, plus it helps to have something in your stomach when you’re tasting at 5 places in a day, right? Le Vigne in Paso Robles is doing the pairing thing right, plus they have a whole cheese ROOM. That’s right, cheese room.

Another week, another winery! But don’t worry, this isn’t just another hum-drum visit. This week we sat down and drank some wine in Avila Beach at the Sinor La-Valle tasting room. We learned how to correctly pronounce the name, more about biodynamic wine, and got to try a pet-nat, which you don’t normally see around here! This week we leave the more southern end of the county and head to Paso Robles. Tag along as we visit Clo Solène, which is an appointment only experience. Visiting their estate tasting room was such a fun experience, and we learned a ton about their wine and about all the French people in the area! Enjoy!

This time around we visited Morovino in lovely Avila Beach! Morovino specializes in Italian varietals. We had a lovely visit with the owner and winemaker. She told us all about the wines and how she became a winemaker. Enjoy!

This week the focus is on the story behind the wine. We spent a lovely afternoon with the owner and founder of Piedra Creek Winery, Margaret. She and her husband started the winery and the effort and attention they have put into this creation is amazing. The wines were delicious and we can't wait to share this with you.

However, by the nature of recording on the fly, sometimes things don't go as planned, and we're not able to control the outside elements or record in a perfect studio environment each time. This week we stopped in at Croma Vera Wines, conveniently located in San Luis Obispo proper. Just a quick run down Broad Street before it turns into Highway 227, Croma Vera is the perfect gateway to Edna Valley, or just a great spot to relax after work on a weekday!

If you stop in, check out our top picks: the Albariño, for white wine lovers, and the Revelación blend, for you red wine drinkers! Convenience and the unique grapes (Croma Vera focuses on Spanish varietals) are the big draws here.

The third episode of our podcast takes us to Autry Cellars in Edna Valley. We spent some time on a lovely Sunday afternoon getting to know the winemaker and owner. A surprising gem this stop is probably the one that stands out most in our minds, so far. This is a true, authentic, experience. An off the grid, off the beaten path, glimpse into what wine tasting used to be more like- unassuming, not pretentious, focused just on wines.
