Obey the Lord, Fear the Lord and be stirred up in the Spirit.

When we place God at the center of our lives by responding to Him in fearful obedience, He will respond to us with the amazing and gracious promises of His presence and power, and we will realize the future blessings that He has in store for us.

The church today can learn a lesson from the Jewish remnant of Haggai's day. Instead of making excuses, we ought to be making confessions and obeying the Lord. Remembering, that fear of the Lord leads to genuine repentance, and genuine repentance will always lead to renewed obedience.

Haggai 1:1-11

The prophet Haggai is one of the most exceptional prophets in the Old Testament not simply because of his message but because the people listen to him!  Haggai calls the people to consider their and what place God has in their life.  As Christians we are called to the same introspection and to heed the call to build God’s Kingdom.

Focusing on our own interests while ignoring the work that God has called us to has dire consequences. But being fully devoted to God brings immense pleasure and glory to Him as His presence in us, His temple, is a light to the nations, pointing people to life and blessing in Jesus.

The book of Haggai is a short, specific message at a unique time and place in history, but the heart attitude of the people living in Jerusalem at the time is a timeless one. God’s people had failed to place him first. Thus God called his people to prioritize building his kingdom and seek him first. This 6th century BC call through the minor prophet Haggai rings equally true today.

This sermon opens our series in the Book of Haggai and addresses the frustration we experience in life when we put ourselves first and the fruitfulness in our lives and for the Kingdom when we put God first.

In John 6:66-69 we see Peter’s confession, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” When we are faced with doubt and the challenges of faith, Peter’s response shows that only Jesus can truly satisfy our deepest longings. Christ’s beauty and worth infinitely surpass anything this world could offer, and He alone gives the fullness of life and hope that our souls long for.

John 6: 66-69

Concluding our series on Constructing Beautiful Faith we consider the ultimate question every person has to ask themselves.  In light of the beauty of the Christian Gospel but still acknowledging there remain unanswered questions, ‘What will you do with Jesus?’  Following Jesus demands accepting certain truths but denying Him also demands something as well.  Everyone believes something.
