John 18:33-38

How should the church interact with politics?  As Christians, we are citizens of Heaven first and our primary loyalty is to King Jesus.  We are called to seek the glory of God and the Kingdom of Heaven as we live as exiles in this world. 

John 18:33-37

Many people have become disillusioned by Christians and churches overemphasizing political power and aligning with a particular political party over and against the emphasis of pursuing the kingdom of God, trusting His sovereignty in all things, loving God and neighbor, and praying for those in positions of power. This sermon will seek to expose political idolatry in the church while constructing a beautiful picture of God’s kingdom.

John 18:33-37

The church has typically fallen into two extreme reactions to politics. On the one hand, some churches have been too invested and placed too much faith in a political party or leader. On the other extreme, some churches have sought to have nothing to do with politics whatsoever. The Bible gives us clarifying directions as to how we should engage politics, calling us to seek God’s kingdom first as we seek to follow Christ our King.

We live in hyper-politicized age in which the marriage of partisan politics and Christianity as driven many people away from the church. This sermon looks at Jesus interaction with a Roman political leader and will challenge our political idol and also how we can construct beautiful political engagement in the way of Jesus.

This After Hours explores the intersection of sexuality and spirituality. We will take an honest look at whether the Christian vision of sexuality is misogynistic, regressive, and bigoted + explore how to live Christianly and engage winsomely on these issues in this moment.

Mark 7:8-9

The Purity culture movement from the 90’s left many people confused about what the Bible teaches about sex and holiness.  Jesus warns his disciples not to add rules to God’s word, nor to relax them.  We need a right view the Bible’s teaching about sex and the good news of forgiveness in Jesus Christ.

Mark 7:6-9

A significant failure of many churches is poor and/or unbiblical teaching regarding sexuality which has caused many to deconstruct their faith and leave the church. But maybe our greatest failing is that we have missed the larger message about our sexuality – that we are made for intimacy, created for covenant, and are pursued by a Bridegroom who awakens our love, redeems our sin, and invites us into eternal union with Him. This sermon will seek to address how the church has failed in this area, and then point hearers to a biblical, beautiful vision of sexuality.

Mark 7:8-9

The purity culture of the 90’s embraced a variety of distorted teachings on sexuality. Many were hurt and misguided in the process, as pastors and youth leaders overemphasized sexual purity over intimacy with Christ. This sermon seeks to offer clarifying biblical truth on human sexuality while pointing to the only One that can ultimately satisfy.

A particular approach to communicating about sex and purity failed a generation of evangelical teens by telling some truths or shades of truth but not communicating the whole beautiful truth.

1 Corinthians 1:1-11

Church can be a place where people get hurt...and yet, it shouldn't be!  What can be done to protect those who might be harmed, and how can hurt people find healing?
