Matthew 25:31-46

Think about how many injustices you have seen throughout your life. The conversations you’ve had around the table about wickedness, hatred, real sweet people who suffer horrors, intelligent, brilliant people who could run the world but live in extreme poverty… just thinking of this could get us depressed!

But even in our own life, we have come to the Lord in prayer multiple times asking for His intervention when things are happening in a way that we know is wrong and that we shouldn’t be experiencing.

Well, I have great news for you! This morning our Lord Jesus will give us a great encouragement and, for those who are comfortable in their enmity with God, Jesus will give them an urgent appeal.

Matthew 25: 31-46

Jesus teaching on the parable of the sheep and the goats and final judgment presents problems for modern listeners, both theological and emotion. To be sure this story of what C.S. Lewis called “the Great Divorce” is sobering but it also contains surprising encouragements for followers of Jesus.

Jesus identifies so intimately with His followers that to serve them is to serve Jesus. In fact, love for Christ’s church is evidence of love for Christ; so much so that when He comes again He will be able to separate the righteous from the unrighteous on the evidence of how they treated “the least of these”.

For Dads sincerely seeking to do their best to parent well, succeeding as a father can seem an overwhelmingly high bar. However, if you boiled fatherhood down to just one thing, the most important thing you could ever do as a Dad is to lovingly point your child to Jesus.

God calls us to honour our fathers, as we seek to be good fathers to our children.  Yet the problem is that sin gets in the way of us doing both of those things.  We are called to be the kind of people who show the grace of God to our fathers and to our children that God has given to us.

Fatherhood is meant to be one of the most honored occupations ever. That’s why God’s Word (Ephesians 6) gives some critical instruction on honoring fathers, and fathering with honor.

The difference committed Christian dads make is nothing short of revolutionary; and the data bears this out. Dads who are consistent, present, and loving toward their children make a world of difference in their kids lives. And dads who teach and model what it means to follow Jesus give their children the greatest gift of all.

Matthew 25:14-30

Jesus tells his disciples a parable to help them to understand how they can be prepared for his return.  We are called to use our gifts as a reflection of God’s character that we can bring him glory.  As we eagerly anticipate his return, we are called to be faithful servants with what God has entrusted to us.

Jesus has entrusted His people with many things that He expects will be invested in His kingdom, for its growth. The question is, “Will the church be found faithful as we wait for His return?”
