Worship is why we were created. We exist to bring God glory, to magnify God, and to worship Him. The call to worship God is not a casual thing, but a deep, serious, and radical call to commitment to follow Jesus. What is worship? There are five functions of the church that are involved when discipling people for Christ. Outreach, worship, fellowship, training, and ministry. Generally, any endeavor that has the potential to yield rewards requires a price up front. Christianity and discipleship are not exceptions. The cost may not always or only be financial, but they are very real. Are we willing to put others needs ahead of our own? Are we willing to allow new qualified and able disciples to take roles of leadership and responsibility in the church? Are we willing to give up our seat for someone who needs to know Jesus?

Are we willing to pay the price to make more and better disciples?

In Matthew chapter 16 we see the question Jesus asked his disciples, “who do you say I am?” Before focusing on others, we must be obedient disciples ourselves. Are we willing to follow wherever he leads? We will be committed disciples ourselves?

As a church, we ought to know what our mission and purpose is. The church exists to glorify God. The means by which we seek that goal is to be obedient to God’s word and commands, striving to please him. We exist to glorify God by discipling our world for Christ, loving and obeying God, loving and serving people. We accomplish that mission through these five means; outreach, worship, fellowship, training, and ministry.

Following the instructions Jesus gave in Matthew chapter 28, we seek to glorify God by being faithful and cultivating more and better disciples.

2 Peter 1:1-15. As we look forward to the new year, ask yourself, spiritually speaking are you were you want to be five years from now? Are you as close to God as you would like to be? The truth is, we all can improve and get to know God better than we currently do. So, how do we primarily get to know God better; his desires, his promises, his will, his instruction? Through his Word, the Bible.
