March is endometriosis awareness month, and in episode #114 your favorite CEOs Taylor Graham and Chloe Willemsen are sitting down with one of the co-founders of Somedays, Lux Perry! Rooted in the concept of trauma-informed care and backed by the science of sports recovery, Somedays designs period pain relief that empowers people to transform their relationship to pain and take control of their body.
Lux Perry had their first experience with debilitating period pain when they were hospitalized for it at 9 years old. For the next 15 years, they were passed from physician to physician, trying to find answers and relief. They spent a decade on birth control and other medications to combat the side effects. None of it worked, shaping their adolescence by their experience with period pain and the shame that came with it.
After growing into themselves and unraveling the shame they had built up in their body over the years, Lux finally began their deep dive into research about chronic pain, while improving and healing their sexual wellness. They found relief for the first time in her life. To Lux’s surprise, pleasure and embodiment brought her more relief than medication ever did.
Eventually, Lux joined a sports recovery company and learned, for the first time, that period cramps are muscle cramps. This led them to wonder, what if we took the science of muscle recovery and applied it to period pain?
Converging their experiences and teaming up with their co-founders who also suffer from chronic pain, they launched somedays in 2021. Now, Lux’s company, Somedays, offer the most comprehensive period pain relief line in North America. Lux’s team looks forward to helping people find real relief, advocating for their stories, and transforming their relationship to pain – through the power of pleasure. We chat with Lux about:
What brought them to entrepreneurship
Insight on their experience with doctors not taking their pain seriously
Advice they have for someone trying to get a diagnosis and doesn't feel like they’re truly being heard and validated by the medical establishment
