SILC workshop Derby, Ceroc dance, community and music come together in Episode 50 of the Dance Inspiration Podcast with Lyndsey Hill and Tim Stevens.

This milestone episode celebrates a very special day for Ceroc Inspire and several important firsts.

We speak to Lyndsey and Tim immediately after teaching 49 dancers at the Derby SILC Foundations workshop. They share how the class responded, why teaching the lead and follow roles separately worked so well, how they adapted the workshop in real time and what dancers gained from the core SILC foundations.

They also discuss connection, opposition, release, musicality and why revisiting the foundations can help both new and experienced dancers grow in confidence.

Lyndsey and Tim reflect on the Derby venue, the atmosphere, the support from dancers and teachers across the East Midlands and their plans to return for SILC Foundations Part Two.

Liz then catches up with Mark about the challenge of preparing for his first SILC DJ set. A recent post about dance etiquette sparked one of the biggest conversations we have had in the Ceroc Inspire community.

What began as a simple reminder about asking people to dance quickly opened up a much deeper discussion around confidence, rejection, body image, invisible health challenges, neurodiversity, personal boundaries and what true inclusivity really looks like on a social dance floor.

In this extended episode, Liz and Mark explore the balance between kindness, personal choice and community, discussing why asking can feel vulnerable, why saying no must sometimes be respected, and how one dance can change someone’s whole evening.

At Ceroc Inspire, we believe social dancing should be a space where asking feels safe, declining feels safe, and everyone feels welcome wherever they are in their dance journey.
