Challenge Accepted

Welcome to Challenge Accepted, the podcast where we review the latest episodes of our favorite shows. I'm Frank and I'm joined by my co-host Thomas. Today, we'll be discussing Chapter 20 of The Mandalorian, titled "The Foundling."

Right off the bat, we were conflicted by this episode. On one hand, it did everything we love about the show: our heroes embark on an epic adventure while expanding the franchise's mythology. However, it left us wondering what the big plan is for the season, especially coming after an episode that seemed to take the show in another direction. What exactly is "The Way"?

But, there was one reveal in this episode that was simply magnificent and almost saved everything else around it. We're talking about the flashback that shows how Grogu was saved during Order 66 by none other than Kelleran Beq, played by Ahmed Best, who previously portrayed Jar Jar Binks. Best has had a tough time in the public eye due to the reception of his character, but it's great to see him back in the Star Wars universe, and even better to see his character's redemption in the form of saving Grogu.

In this episode, we also see Grogu start training with the other foundlings and using his Jedi skills to beat another Mandalorian in a game of darts. We get some great scenes of the Mandalorians in training, but we can't help but feel like the episode was dragging at certain points.

The Armorer continues Grogu's training and explains the importance of the beskar forge to Mandalorian culture. Grogu watches the machinery and is transported back to his Order 66 memory, where we see Beq come to his rescue. It's a satisfying turn of events to finally get some answers about Grogu's past, and we hope to see more of Beq in the future.

Overall, this episode of The Mandalorian had its ups and downs, but the flashback with Beq was a standout moment that we won't forget anytime soon. We'll be eagerly awaiting the next episode to see what the show has in store for us next. Thanks for tuning in to Challenge Accepted!

In this podcast episode, we review episode 8 of HBO's "The Last of Us". The episode tells a different perspective of the story, where a group of survivors mourn the loss of Alec, a hunter who was killed by Joel and considered a member of their community. The group seeks justice for Alec's murder, turning to their leader, David, for help. Meanwhile, Ellie and Joel are trying to fend off the Silver Lakers, whose intentions remain suspicious despite David's apparent kindness. In this episode, the show's central themes of morality, survival, and justice are explored more deeply, as well as uncomfortable topics like cannibalism. The episode raises thought-provoking questions about who gets saved and who gets culled, making it particularly compelling. Ultimately, the episode comes down on Joel and Ellie's side, as David's turn to cannibalism crosses too many lines, and he is revealed to be a sick individual.

Welcome to Challenge Accepted where we review the season three premiere of The Mandalorian, titled "The Apostate". In this episode, we dive into the adventure-filled world of the Mandalorian as we follow the journey of Din Djarin and Grogu navigating the galaxy and learning the ways of the Mandalorian.

"The Apostate" is a much-needed palate cleanser after the duo's stint in The Book of Boba Fett. The episode is deliberately paced with some bursts of action, providing some enticing setups for the rest of the season. The sun-drenched opening sequence with the Armorer and the Tribe's helmet bestowment ceremony re-establishes the importance of a Mandalorian's oath to never remove one's helmet, underlining this year's quest.

This episode offers some deep-seated philosophical quandaries at the heart of Din's desire for atonement and redemption with his clan of religious zealots vs. his clear need for connection, at least with Grogu, that's the reason he revealed his face in the first place. Hopefully, his pilgrimage to Mandalore will address these bigger questions.

We also see the brief respites of Din and Grogu sitting together, providing heart-wrenching moments for fans of the series. Pedro Pascal's ability to tell a soulful story without the use of his face speaks to how great he is as an actor.

The return to Nevarro and reunion with Carl Weathers' Greef Karga adds a sense of scope to Din and Grogu's journey to this point, reminding us of how much time has passed since season 1. Learning that Mando is insistent on rebuilding IG-11 is fantastic news, as the fan-favorite droid was one of the very best things about the first season.

The world-building is impeccable, with attention to detail in the different droids and species we see on Nevarro, making it feel alive. Mando's starship fight with the pirates in the asteroid field is a lot of fun, letting us see his Naboo starfighter in combat for the first time.

The tense meeting between Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze in Kalevala keeps the story moving, as these two have some serious philosophical differences about what it means to be a Mandalorian. It's almost inevitable that they'll one day do battle not just for the Darksaber but for perceived moral high ground.

Overall, "The Apostate" is a thrilling and adventurous start to the third season of The Mandalorian, and we can't wait to see where the journey takes us next. Tune in to our podcast episode for more exciting insights and analysis.

In this episode of Challenge Accepted, we review the critically acclaimed drama "Fruitvale Station." Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film tells the true story of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old black man who was fatally shot by a police officer on New Year's Day in 2009 at the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland, California.

We delve into the film's powerful portrayal of Oscar's life leading up to his tragic death, including his relationships with his family, friends, and girlfriend.

Oscar is played by Micheal B. Jordan, recent recipient of a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His performance was masterful. Starting an extremely successful career.

Overall, we highly recommend "Fruitvale Station" for its powerful performances, poignant storytelling, and timely themes. It is a film that will stick with you long after the credits roll, and we believe it is an important piece of cinema that everyone should see.
