Last week I started a money conversation. This week I continue it by talking about earning money versus creating value, receiving money and your relationship with stuff. My definition of value is everything we've learned (classes, books, conversations and experiences) personally and professionally.
Where are you saying no to money? Where are you saying yes?
Our net worth, whether positive or negative, is not connected to our self worth and the stuff we buy may or may not be necessary for the person we want to become. Have a listen as I explore how shifting this perspective from money to value can open the world to you.
What is your relationship with money? If you were to describe money as a person what would they look like? What would they say and do? We give a lot of power to a concept. We think money makes us do the things we do. What if that wasn't true? Money the concept is just a circumstance. Our thoughts and feelings about it create our experience around it.
In this episode I talk about some exercises you can do to examine what money means to and about you.
Taking responsibility for our emotional experiences may sound like an onerous task. It's actually one of the biggest gifts we can give ourselves and the future we want to create. I look at 2 concepts in this podcast: life isn't a 100% positive ride all the time, yet we believe it should be. This creates a lot of self-induced suffering. The other concept that would change how you view the world is that our thoughts create our feelings. We believe that something external, be it a person or happening, creates our feelings. This leaves us feeling powerless and not in control of what's happening in our lives.
I'll look at what would change for you if you were to shift your perspective on your own life if you believed these two concepts.
There are so many different test and quizzes that can provide us with the basics of our emotional and cognitive habits. We can use that information in all kinds of ways and become attached to the identity they provide us. We can choose to embody those types, using them as a skeleton to support the shape of our self-concepts. We can choose to dismiss the parts that don't serve us. Decision making is more about how we want to feel and think about ourselves and less about the thing we're deciding on. Join me as I explore becoming more conscious of ourselves as we make choices.
