Changing The Story Around Birth & Fourth Trimester

Listen Later

Part of my calling for a home birth and working one on one with a midwife through both of my pregnancies had been from listening into birth stories from friends, family and patients over the years. I tuned in and noted how these women were feeling both immediately after birth, but also months into their motherhood journey. I decided I wanted something more- to really feel heard, supported, nurtured and comfortable within my birthing and fourth trimester environment.    While birth trauma is something I was fortunate enough to navigate around, I know this is not the case for 1 in 3 women. Yes, that stat is way too high.    Wether its your first birth, or more, to help you and your loved ones change the story around birth and your fourth trimester experience, I invited along a calm, caring and knowledgable soul onto the podcast. Her name is Kirstie Maddocks.    Kirstie is a Midwife, Doula, Life Coach and mama of two. She runs Kirstie Maddocks Motherhood Mentor, where she supports women in a variety of ways as they enter into the sacred journey of motherhood. She holds space for new mothers in her Nurturing & Mindful Mothers Groups, supports mothers throughout pregnancy and in the fourth trimester through her postnatal doula support and provides coaching and guidance for women who have experienced birthing trauma.    Kirstie is passionate about providing a holistic, nurturing and evidence based approach to empower and create space for mothers to unravel and explore their new journey into motherhood with a focus on matrescence.    In episode 57 of the Glowing Mumma Thriving Bubba podcast, Kirstie and I open up the conversation around birth trauma and how we can change the story for many women going forward.  What We Cover: We explore:

>> Kirstie's why to becoming a midwife & doula.

>> Where the system has let down women through pregnancy and birth.

>> Opening up the birth trauma conversation.

>> Suggestions for where women can go who feel as though they have been impacted by birth trauma.

>> How birth trauma could be prevented.

>> How to support the transition into motherhood and the life changes that come with this.

>> Conversations to have with your partner and possibly family before baby arrives.
