In this passage, Jesus ties hypocrisy to something really important - FEAR. To clarify further, fear of MAN rather than fear of GOD - a fear that is unhealthy and wrongly placed, not driven by truth and grace.

The way of Christ is the way to eternal fellowship with God

Jesus is still sojourning toward Jerusalem and ultimately to the cross, and is dependent on hospitality in the cities along the way for food and rest. As fellow sojourners with Christ, Luke highlights in these two scenes that we are in need of a greater hospitality that only God can provide.
