Matthew the tax collector provides us with the 1st Gospel but also the 1st book of the New Testament. Not only that but he chooses to start this book off with a very very long list of all of Jesus' ancestors. While we normally would skip over this portion of scripture, we know that Paul tells us that all scripture is profitable and given to us to make us complete and equipped. This means that there is importance in every passage of scripture, even in a passage like this.

God not only works for our good now. He has been working for our good from the very beginning and He will work for our good in the future.

Here are my random thoughts on Materialism. God tells us how dangerous it is to store up treasures on earth. Idolizing material things has the potential to have devastating eternal consequences.

God had given us skills, talents and passions. All these things are great until we begin to neglect the Holy Spirit and lean on our understanding. Like Paul, we should not rely on our own skills to do the work of God, we should rely on the Spirit to demonstrate the power of our God.

In all that we do as Christian's, God is looking for us to do our best. Paul makes this very clear to his beloved disciple Timothy in his last letter to him.

The Bible teaches that there is only 1 God but that God exists in 3 seperate persons: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. John helps us to understand this glorious relationship.

The emphasis that we place on material items, especially in raising our children has lasting and even eternal consequences for the state of our souls. I hope and pray that my thoughts on Materialism get you thinking about how much importance you place on material items.
