If a twenty three year old university student were living in Alberta, Quebec, or Ontario, the medication she needs would be covered. Because she lives in British Columbia, the drug Soliris costs Shantee Anaqod and her family $750,000 per year.

A 23 year old UBC student suffering from atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome - a rare autoimmune disease that is characterized by renal failure (when your kidneys stop working) - is hoping to be treated by a drug called Soliris. While it is approved by Health Canada,  it costs $750,000 per year. And B.C. doesn’t cover it.

Not only is it bad enough for customers of Toronto Hydro when their power is disconnected - the company also charges a $55 “disconnection fee” to the customer - so the customer basically has to pay to be informed that their power is being cut off...and Toronto Hydro is not alone in this practice.  

An investigation from Global News found that Ontario electricity companies across the province billed customers $12.4 MILLION, just to tell them their power could be cut off.

An interesting survey from Stats Canada numbers has been released - having to do with how much Canadians are using the internet. Just over 90% of Canadians aged 15 and up went online at least a few times a month in 2016….and it looks like it’s not just young people checking out the Internet - 68% of those 65 and up also used the internet at least a few times a month.

Four people have been killed and several young students injured after multiple, seemingly random, shootings at several locations in rural California, including an elementary school.

The summit of Asian and Western nations is drawing to a close, where human rights activists had been hoping that leaders at the summit, would raise the issue of the thousands of users and small-time pushers killed in the campaign that was launched by Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte after he took office in mid-2016.  

In a press conference today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he did have the opportunity to talk to President Duterte about the issue, saying it’s something Canada is very concerned with.

However, judging from President Duterte’s response to a media question asked about the exchange...that conversation may not have been as positive as Trudeau thought.

A fifth woman has come forward with allegations that Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager in the 1970s.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was floating something about calling a special council into investigating Hillary emails. Many many conservatives still want that to go to a Special Council and to “lock her up.”

Could former VP Joe Biden really consider running in the 2020 Presidential Election?   

A fight is being taken up in BC by a woman who is fighting her strata to keep two therapy dogs in her apartment. The woman’s two daughters have “mental health concerns” that require the assistance of the therapy dogs, but their strata unit doesn’t allow any pets...including dogs.

The family says they were unaware of the rules when they moved in, but from 2015-2016 the family has racked up several bylaw infractions...with fines totalling $98000!!  

Keurig Green Mountain announced it wouldn’t run ads during the show Saturday, after the host had this to say about Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore amid allegations that he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl several years ago, and pursued relationships with other teenagers.

During an emotional monologue on his show yesterday, Jimmy Fallon discussed the death of his 68 year old mother, who passed away on November 4th.
