More than 10,000 asylum seekers have walked across the U.S. border into Canada to file refugee claims so far this year, including 3,800 into Quebec in the first two weeks of August alone, authorities have said.  What is it going to cost the Canadian Taxpayer? Also, should we be bracing for a federal tax hike? And Mike Duffy, the Senate and the RCMP are all heading to court after the senator launched a lawsuit seeking about eight million dollars in damages.

Senator Mike Duffy is suing the Senate and the R-C-M-P for almost eight million dollars.  An anti-fascist group called Black Bloc defended their actions today and threatened more violence against journalists. An Ontario teachers' union says Sir John A. Macdonald was the "architect of genocide against Indigenous Peoples.''  And the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario is calling for the name of the country's first prime minister to be removed from schools in the province.

A 53-year-old Massachusetts hospital worker has won the lottery  758.7-million-dollar Powerball jackpot.  Or rather, former hospital worker. A centuries-old artifact in Essex, U.K., was damaged over the weekend when a family placed a child in an ancient coffin to snap a photo. As a result, the fragile 800-year-old artifact suffered minor damage. An existing crack in the sandstone coffin grew after a shard fell off. A man cycling across the country is stranded in Winnipeg after his bike was stolen.

A digital marketing company is slashing work hours in a bid to make staff happier.

President Donald Trump is threatening to tear up the North American Free Trade Agreement. Trump said he thinks they will ``terminate'' NAFTA during a campaign-style speech at a rally in Arizona last night, telling the crowd he didn't think it would be possible to come up with a revamped deal that would be good enough for the United States.

Not only did Trump say he might back out of NAFTA last night he also threatened a government shutdown over his promised Southern border wall.  Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tells reporters travelling aboard Air Force Once that Trump ``has made no secret'' that getting the wall built is a priority. She says he's ``looking forward'' to working with Congress to get it done.  Trump threatened a standoff on the issue during the rally last night.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says efforts underway to manage a surge of people showing up at the Canada-U-S border to claim asylum are working. A poll released today by Mainstreet Research/Postmedia suggests Canadians’ fears around their own safety don’t necessarily line up with the stats. The survey showed that, out of 15 cities, people in Winnipeg felt the least safe in their hometown, while those in Ottawa felt most safe. RCMP in British Columbia are turning to the public for help to find a parolee missing since July. Christopher Lane Lindgren “failed to meet the conditions of his release” at a designated residence in Prince George on Friday, July 28.
