As a bonus sermon in the Advent and Christmas series, we consider how we are to engage with God's word. We are to trust it, obey it, share it with others, and believe in the incarnate Word Jesus Christ.

The incarnation of the Son of God teaches us that we can know God, we can change, and we can trust God.

The Bible ends on a word of grace. As we wait on Jesus to return, we live in the grace of his promise, the grace of his delay, the grace of his blood, the grace of his church, and the grace of his call.

Life comes from God. All that was lost in the garden will be restored in the new city.

The new city, the bride, and the temple are all images of human flourishing that is promised through relationship with the Lamb.

The Lord promises to renew all things. Everything that is good in this world will be in the new one and everything that is bad here will never be there. Jesus Christ who died and rose again can be trusted to keep his promise for us.

We learn four things from this passage about sharing the gospel with a religious community: the necessity of the Spirit, the centrality of Jesus, the importance of teaching, and the inevitability of conflict.

Some mock the resurrection of Jesus and others surrender their whole lives to him.

A life consistent with the gospel of grace can surprise others into believing in Jesus Christ.
