If we hope to resist temptation and to protect ourselves against the devil’s schemes, we need to stand sure-footed on the gospel of God’s grace in Jesus.

Whether we are religious or not, we all live to become righteous in someone else's eyes. Only Christ's righteousness, given to us as a gift, can protect our heart from condemnation.

The truth of the gospel as revealed in Scripture must fundamentally shape our understanding of all reality. Only by knowing, trusting, and living the gospel can we withstand the devil's schemes.

The book ends with another vision. From it we learn about the battles fought in the spiritual realm, in the world, and in our hearts. Praise God, the ultimate victory belongs to Jesus.

How do we pray in exile? We plead God's promises revealed in the Bible, we humbly confess our sins, we pray as part of God's covenant community, and we pray with hope in future restoration. God's answer to our prayers is always bigger and better than we expect. And ultimately, all his promises are fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

We are given visions of monsters to remind us of the evil of sin and visions of God's throne to encourage us. Whatever monsters we are fighting today, the Son of Man is in control and we will reign with him forever.
