Chris then heads across to Kilkeel to speak with talented artist, Melissa McKee, about twelve of her magnificent painting in the area of the Mournes, which are now available in calendar format for 2022!

Alfie talks about the life of a turkey in the run up to Christmas....and suggests a few good cooking tips also!!  

The programme then moves down to Newcastle, County Down. Chris pops into a unique local toyshop, Thumbelina, situated at 10a Railway Street and he has a chat with proprietor Audrey Byrne. This is the time of year when we think about Santa Claus, children and toys. Chris brings along some of his own toys which he has kept for  almost fifty years. Can we find anything in Thumbelina that will still be on sale today?????

Join Chris when he visits the local detachment of the Army Cadets based at Killyleagh to find out more about what the organisation can offer young people. 

Chris speaks to a local female cadet about her experiences with the local detachment. Chris is also joined by the Battalion Recruiting Warrant Officer, local Colour Sergeant and the Company Sergeant Major. The Army Cadets are open to 12 to 18 year olds and are also seeking adult volunteers.

Click on the link and listen back to the highlights from Remembrance -  first broadcast on the Chris Scott Show, FM105 Down Community Radio on Wednesday 10th November, 2021 (7-8pm)

Chris visits the grave of William Samuel Montgomery, at Killyleagh Presbyterian Graveyard. 

William Samuel Montgomery was born on the 5th November, 1893 in the townland of Ballymacreely, Killyleagh, County Down, Northern Ireland. He later joined the 16th Royal Irish Rifles and went to France in 1915.  He was wounded at the Battle of the Somme and on 17th November 1916 he died as a result of his injuries, aged 24.

Chris speaks to Killyleagh's Austin Cheevers about the life and times of a soldier during this period of our history. Austin, who works at The Somme Centre in Newtownards and has a keen interest in local soldiers serving in The Great War, joins Chris at the graveside of William Samuel Montgomery, Rifleman 534.  A fitting tribute to those "who gave their all for our tomorrow."

During the programme there are excerpts from local press reports during WW1 read by Michelle Dorans from Dorans Academy of Speech and Drama. 

The programme concludes with the Castlewellan Studio Players with Episode 2 ( Series 2 ) of The Adventures of Jonathan No Middle Name Jackson!!  There are a total of 6 episodes, written for radio by Anthony McFadden and performed by members of the Players.

Join Chris this week in conversation with Killyleagh's Conal Montgomery and Duxy Leahy on The Chris Scott Radio Show, FM 105 Down Community Radio , Downpatrick, County Down.

Conal, a talented singer, musician and songwriter, has recently returned to the recording studio, and recorded a brand new song - "My Confession."  The song wasn't all Conal's creation though. The words had been penned in prose format several years ago by local artist Duxy Leahy. You can listen to the guys talking to Chris about how a poem was turned into song by tuning in on Wednesday evening. "My Confession", is released on all the usual platforms on 29th October, 2021.

And this week the Castlewellan Studio Players return to the airwaves with Series 2 of The Adventures of Jonathan No Middle Name Jackson!!  In this series there are 6 episodes, written for radio by Anthony McFadden and performed by members of the Players. 

In episode one we hear the cast realigning themselves for the new series. What will happen? In the last episode of Series 1 the characters Jonathan, Samantha and Donna were left in a caravan at Glastonbury Fair in 1971 with a pair of size 12 special boots required for further adventures!! Great to have so much local talent feature on local radio!

Maybe you are stuck for somewhere to go this Halloween weekend. Alison McGrenaghan talks to Chris about the weekend of events planned at Ballydugan Medieval Settlement, Downpatrick. The Magnus Viking Association present the Samhain Festival – Spirits of the Hedgerow Tavern and Medieval Market on Saturday 30th October and Sunday 31st October. Alison talks to Chris about the weekend events and also about the background to Samhain and Halloween.

Chris is also joined on the programme by Janine Boyle from the Dufferin Coaching Inn and Hall, High Street, Killyleagh. Janine talks to Chris about the Craft Fair to be held on the premises at 33 High Street on Sunday 31st October between 12noon and 4.30pm. An event not to be missed!!

Chris also chats to Margaret Drake from Crossgar about celebrating Halloween, in both the past and the present. Margaret reads out several of her own poems which are themed to this time of the year!!

Another poet and friend of the show, Michelle Dorans, from Dorans Academy of Speech and Drama also pops in and reads two of her compositions about this spooky time of the year!!
