Check Your Privilege

Spooktober closes with a banger. Patil and Smax fanboying, mixed in with slasher film hatred and a genuine discussion on the blurred lines between horror and comedy.

New seasons, new beginnings, same downmarket humour. Patil and Smax round off the last anime of their supposed "Spooktober" with plenty of philosophy, ranting on low production budgets and, of course, with a good old waifu war.

** DISCLAIMER **: Major spoilers incoming. We mean it this time. The show will be ruined for you. RUINED.

In the last episode of this arbitrary season, Smax tries to suppress his gag reflex and Patil lets loose his gore fetishes as they try and squeeze meaning out of a slasher movie disguised as 'psychological horror'.

** DISCLAIMER ** : Spoiler Alert. This movie will spoil any and all desire to eat. Skip the popcorn, else you'll be skipping it forever.

Yes, it's like the game. Yes, there are a metric ton of Misakis in this show. Yes, Smax and Patil agree on something, finally. And oh, boy do they agree. Any pretence of proper comedy is ditched for innuendo, bad puns and 69 jokes. Listen at your own risk.

**DISCLAIMER** Whoops, didn't add one in the audio. Here it is. Spoiler alert. Although it is impossible to spoil it more than Misaki Mei does.

Finally, a movie whose references sail above even the legendary Smax's head. Patil takes joy in pointing that out, and the bois try and make sense of a film that even the director hand-waves away as "either you get it, or you don't".

** DISCLAIMER ** Spoilers incoming. Although one might appreciate a freaking explanation even after they're finished with this movie.

Smax puts on his tinfoil hat full time for this episode as he tries to wrap his head around Patema Inverted's serpentine plot. Plus, Patil gets out his arcane trivia about the ending theme being in Esperanto and tries not to succumb to Patema's feminine wiles.

** DISCLAIMER **: No spoilers at all in this episode... Oh, wait, who are we kidding. Of course there are.

The bois discuss one of the best modern-day Cartoon Network cartoons in Over The Garden Wall. Patil gets miffed about a Greek mythology reference that flies over his head, Smax intentionally bloopers one in for the episode's intro, and is still surprised (God knows how) at Patil's gore fetishes.

** DISCLAIMER ** Spoiler warning. There, you happy now? Go watch it. It's barely 100 minutes long.

It's all about the soundtrack in this episode, as Smax and Patil break down the 2004 cult classic by Watanabe Shinichiro. Observations about the show's influences, themes and episodic nature all cycle around Nujabes and Tsutchie. We also delve into the cultural implications of Edo-era Japan and the depiction of counterculture through the show's anachronisms.

** DISCLAIMER ** It's very difficult to spoil a show that's about the experience of the journey, but we bois manage to do it anyway. Call it a knack.

Patil and Smax are on their best crappy-pun forms as they discuss this gorefest. With pretentious claims of 'the book was better', and plenty of air-quotes neither each other nor the audience can see. A first take show to remember.

** DISCLAIMER **: Jeez, do we really even have to any more? As always, expect spoilers. A LOT of spoilers.

As promised, the flying sparks are here! Patil veers deep into anime territory with this recommendation, and, as predicted, hater boi Smax has some strong opinions on the matter.

** DISCLAIMER ** Even though we bring it up in the audio this time, be prepared for spoilers anyway. There. No need to be mad anymore.
