Nerds of Pray is the podcast where Nerd Pastor Nathan Webb of Checkpoint Church sits down with some of the leading people in the realm of Nerd/Pop Culture Ministry. He asks them questions about their specific venture into the ministry, as well as what first led them to the intersection of faith and fandom.

In this inaugural episode, Nathan sits down with Russ Dornisch, one of the leaders from the UMC-based Crossfire: Faith+Gaming.

Look - I know it's cringe. But can Among Us teach us anything about how to be better Christian or just better people in general?

The phenomenon of the imposter-game is really pleasing to the lizard brain part of ourselves - but does that mean that it's good? Is it working for us or against us?

Fine... let's talk about this.

Can Christians watch anime? Or read manga? Or play video games? Yes. Yes. Yes.

Let's talk about what we're really asking when we ask this question and how we can better frame the question to discern what we should and shouldn't be watching/playing/reading.  I keep seeing this question pop up in our comments and it's just too easy of an answer. We need to talk about it.

In this sermon from Nerd Pastor Nate, delivered at Royal Oaks United Methodist Church in Concord, NC, on July 25th, 2021, he discusses the freedom given to us from sin in faith and what we should do with that freedom.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 New Revised Standard Version

19 For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might win more of them. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though I myself am not under the law) so that I might win those under the law. 21 To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law) so that I might win those outside the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, so that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.

Let's be honest: when it comes to MOBAs, the best players know how to play to the meta theory of the game. But does that make it okay? Has this mindset seeped into how we live our lives as people?

In this nerdy sermon diving into Pokémon Unite, Nerd Pastor Nate tackles the toxic trait of exclusion and homogeneity. Why does the successful strategy of meta-gaming not work for real life?
